Animal Suffering

  Animal Suffering

The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Mahatma Gandhi

Unknowingly, our eating habits and usage of other animal based products (such as silk, wool, leather or fur) are causing immense suffering to animals. Today, many of the animals used for food, clothing, entertainment and scientific or cosmetic experimentation/testing are kept in some of the most unimaginable conditions and undergo extreme pains and intense cruelty throughout their life. Animals such as cows, pigs, goats and chicken reared for food in today’s factory farms undergo grievous pain almost daily, from the day they are born till death/slaughter.

It wouldn’t be possible to describe the treatment being meted out to these animals in words. We recommend viewing Earthlings film and/or to get in touch with Samabhava for various resources.

Fundamentally, just like humans, freedom is dear to all animals. Animals would not like to be held in captivity. They all want to live a free life, in their natural habitat. It is inappropriate on our part to think of or to treat any animal, as a commodity or as a non-living object. Animals have the same feelings, same desires and can feel pain just like we humans do.
